Rhizome Networks Open Source Community is a community of professionals that contribute to the Rhizome Networks project, owned by Rhizome Networks LTD (the Company).

By joining the Open Source community one can take an active part in the following tasks:

  • Developing Rhizome Browser core surfaces and extension surfaces
  • Developing the building blocks for constructing derivative virtual workplaces, what work using the same concepts as Rhizome Networks for niche markets, and unique purposes
  • Developing the integration between Rhizome Browser and Rhizome Social 3.0. These two environments together creates a full concept of virtual-workplace, and each has its own roles, while major part of the information is shared between the two.
  • Developing Integrations with other environments, such as software IDEs (InteliJ, Eclipse, NetBeans etc..) , web browsers and other social networks
  • Developing gadget applications for using internally on Rhizome Networks peer-to-peer, or on top of Rhizome Networks container (such as the search-gadget reviewed in the website) that allow gadgets to be served for other networks.
  • Developing web services that take part in the workplace's workflow, such as the accounting-service, various directory services for storing component (as reviewed in the website) and more.

Beside development tasks, open-source community members can take place in various activities related with the “whole product” such as support, testing, usability evaluation, marketing activities, and documentation.

Rhizome Networks open source community act by projects. Each project has its own moderator that received a special permission from the Company act as moderator and manage its project based on requirements and specifications set by Company that take into account community ideas, suggestions, and feedback .

The open source modules are licensed under GPL and LGPL. Community members are first required sign-up the Rhizome Networks Social 3.0 community site (this website), and then to sign Contributor License Agreement (CLA) that grants the Company the rights to use the source for commercial purpose.

Access to source-code is granted to contributers via SVN. The actual link to source code will be published with the formal announcement.

Communication between members, documentation, projects status overview and bug tracking are all handled via social-networks features (project-group,forums, books, bug-base) as well as Rhizome -Browser, that will be used in the future as the platform for handling project's life-cycle. Both social-network and Rhizome Browser are planed to be integrated and complementary (which is a task for one of the community groups).

Here are some of the benefits for participating the community:

  • Get the inner-circle knowledge of creating commercial components, services and gadgets that can be trade in the Rhizome Networks marketplace.
  • Get the inner-circle knowledge for creating standalone commercial services and applications, using Rhizome Networks technology
  • Free use of Rhizome Browser community-edition
  • Knowing the technology from first-source that allows you to offer your services later as freelancer on commercial-projects, running on Rhizome Networks virtual-workplace
  • An d of course – Challenge and opportunity to share the creation of innovative workplace paradigm
